I think that the grounds in which you are banning this book are unreasonable. I'll start off by talking about the education. Just because he disses the educational system doesn't mean that he doesn't accept it. In fact on page 131 he talks about how everyone seems to enjoy it enough, just not him. The drinking thing may be another issue. OF COURSE we don't want our kids to be drinking, but the time we see him get drunk, it seems absolutely awful. And vulgarity towards women. It is something that is very sexist and doesn't teach our kids about good morals. He does, however, talk about how if it actually comes down to it, he wouldn't do any of the crummy stuff. Besides people are always thinking trash about others. Holden shows that it's normal to think them and good not to actually do them.

I really agree with you Colton. I don't think any schools should ban this book. I like when you said he accepts education, that really shows education is something necessary in ones life.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Colton. Your writing style is candid and concise, but also effective. You apply the three aspects of an affective argument to all your topics and do so in a brief "to-the-point" way.
