Holden: Adult or Child
I think that he was quite a bit like an adult but only when he was by himself. he had nothing to do and there was no one to impress. When he went to the lobby and started talking to the three ladies, he began to act very childish even though he apparently didn't seem to realize it which is probably why he kept doing it. And C'mon He's practically begging for a little alcohol from the barman. if he were more mature he probably would've moved on when the barman asked for ID.

i agree that he acted immature when he was at the bar. its like when you change your personality to impress people but just look stupid. it seems that the only time he acts mature is when he talks about important people in his life like jane or Allie. he just seems "phony" when he acts older.
ReplyDeleteYes, Colton, Holden doesn't know how to be himself. I guess I have never really thought about it, but when he tries NOT to conform he is actually conforming by changing his identity to be unlike everyone else. Did I just contradict myself? Holden needs to set his values and even more, his life, straight.
