Marriage

A psychological stepping stone
For people who haven't completely decided
Their life.
It's the biggest time waster.
You always have to make plans
That will work out for both of you.
But imagine,
You just go where you want,
When you want
And if someone likes you
And you like them, too
You could stick together
And you could leave.
You can still love them
And you could probably see them again.
BUT you won't be held back by their struggles
And you could go do things that you enjoy.
That's the fun little world that I live in.

Dear Mr. School Board

I think that the grounds in which you are banning this book are unreasonable. I'll start off by talking about the education. Just because he disses the educational system doesn't mean that he doesn't accept it. In fact on page 131 he talks about how everyone seems to enjoy it enough, just not him. The drinking thing may be another issue. OF COURSE we don't want our kids to be drinking, but the time we see him get drunk, it seems absolutely awful. And vulgarity towards women. It is something that is very sexist and doesn't teach our kids about good morals. He does, however, talk about how if it actually comes down to it, he wouldn't do any of the crummy stuff. Besides people are always thinking trash about others. Holden shows that it's normal to think them and good not to actually do them.

Chapters 16 through 18

Well first of all, I really like the part at the end of chapter 16 when he says that he notices those rainbow colored gasoline puddles. I see those all the time so that was pretty cool. Anyways,Im analyzing the very end of chapter 18. "Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will." There are so many things to say about this. First of all, he considers himself an atheist so I'm not sure I'll take his word on this. Most importantly, people must have thought that they would need to really have to be afraid anymore of wars and stuff. The bomb would be enough influence and would keep other countries at bay. Maybe Holden is the only one who thinks like this. People should have been informed that the destruction that it causes is too much and they can't go and shoot em at countries all willy nilly.
That might actually be one reason that not as many people went out for the war in NAM. They all thought that we could just nuke em and be done. This must have been a huge part of peoples lives. They probably had monuments of the bombs in their living rooms or something. Not really though but I'm sure that it was on peoples' minds a lot. Besides, they used Dr. Manhattan and the comedian in NAM.

Catholicism

Holden starts talking about Catholicism after talking to the nuns near the end of chapter 15. He was kind of talking about how to tell whether or not he was Catholic and remembered some experiences with Catholics. The biggest thing that he said about it, in my opinion, was, "The thing was, you could tell by the way he asked me that he was trying to find out if I was Catholic. He really was....He was enjoying the conversation about tennis and all, but you could tell he would've enjoyed it MORE if I was a Catholic and all." This is totally true. People seem to enjoy talking to someone more if they have stuff in common. He seems to be annoyed by this but he's glad that the nuns didn't ask him about his faith. He seems pretty much the same about this topic.
I also enjoyed the part where he talked about Jesus. "I asked old Childs if he thought Judas went to Hell after he committed suicide. Childs said certainly. That's exactly where I disagreed with him. I said I'd bet a thousand bucks that Jesus never sent old Judas to Hell." This was a huge eye-opener to me. I didn't really care about what happened to him after he died because he wasn't important to me. This helps me understand that Holden might actually feel that there is a Jesus out there waiting to take him in even though this person knows that Holden has done some pretty bad things in his time. THINK ABOUT THAT PEOPLE. MAKES YOUR HEAD HURT, DOESN'T IT?! Well it shouldn't really.

Holden: Adult or Child

I think that he was quite a bit like an adult but only when he was by himself. he had nothing to do and there was no one to impress. When he went to the lobby and started talking to the three ladies, he began to act very childish even though he apparently didn't seem to realize it which is probably why he kept doing it. And C'mon He's practically begging for a little alcohol from the barman. if he were more mature he probably would've moved on when the barman asked for ID.

HI

I really liked the quote in chapter 8 when Holden said, "He's as sensitive as a toilet seat." LAWLZ They also talked about Peter Lorre in chapter ten. Peter Lorre is like the best actor pre-color movies. I think he's better than Bogart. I saw him in Mad Love, The Maltese Falcon, and Arsenic and Old Lace.
